Daily Home-Connection:
1. Discussion & Read: Have students share their daily work with you each day. Have a conversation about what they learned, favorite part of the day, etc. Take time to snuggle up and read a book together every day.
2. Take-Home Readers: Students will receive a take-home reader every week of the school year (starting 8/27). These are four-page decodeable readers that reinforce our weekly sight words. Since these sight words are crucial to recognize for beginning readers, your student should read this book out loud to someone else every night of the week. These readers are not fancy, they are black and white paper copies (so they can be colored!), and they are your's to keep and practice our sight words in a meaningful way. (Students will receive a "daily reading tracker" to mark off if they read).
3. Math Page: Starting in October (or earlier, if desired), students will have the opportunity to take home math pages to practice what we are learning. These can be done and reviewed at home for extra practice, but are not required.
4. Optional: I will provide other at-home activity ideas with our "daily reader trackers" each month to reinforce what we are learning in class to keep those bright minds busy!:)

Student of the Week:
Each week we will have a "Student of the Week". This gives our class the chance to get to know each other and celebrate our classmates. If it is your child's turn, they will receive an All About Me poster page on Monday the week prior and will present their poster to the class on Friday. Your student is welcome to add pictures, color, draw, decorate, etc. on the poster however they want! If your student needs more time to complete the poster and would like to present a different day during their week, let me know, we are flexible. Also, you are invited to watch and/or present with your child.
**Optional: We will learn about jobs and careers this year. You are invited to share with the class (briefly) about your job and bring a tool you use (even stay-at-home moms use tools!) during your child's week! The kids would love to hear about any job.
Our sharing time will be ~8:50(A.M.) ~11:20(P.M.) on those Friday mornings/afternoons (or other day, if needed).

Birthdays:
In kindergarten, we love birthdays! We would love to help you celebrate. If you desire, your student may bring a treat/snack to share at recess time with the class. Please note: school rules indicate that any treat to be shared must be pre-packaged/store purchased. Even though we love yummy homemade goodies, these cannot be distributed among students. This is completely optional.
Snack:
We will not be having an organized snack time in class. However, students are welcome to bring their own snack from home, if desired, to eat outside at recess before they play. With that being said, if you choose to send a snack, make sure it is small enough and quick to eat so they have time to play when they are done.
Volunteering:
Please watch for emails concerning volunteering in the next few weeks as we get into the swing of things! Thank you for your willingness to contribute to our classroom.
